September 21st and 22nd - Come take a lesson or audit this clinic with some of the Worlds finest :

Jose Mendez - The Dressage Master :  Spanish trained (Royal School, Jerez) Jose Mendez represented Australia in Grand Prix, and his Haute Ecole performances with gala evening shows such as Equitana, and El Caballo have been enjoyed around the world. Snr. Mendez is a L2 Coach (currently retired) and Coach Educator, and Fellow of the ISRB. Jose brings classical dressage, through kind and gentle methods, to both horse and rider.

Colleen Kelly - Seat & posture: beginners to Grand Prix. But not just for dressage—Colleen has worked with 8 World Champions in 8 different sports. We can help with sitting trot, moving hands, “twists”, looking down, leaning forward, on the forehand or cutting in. Find out WHY you lean forward (not just the same old “sit up straight).  Learn WHY your shoulders aren’t level (not just the old “sit straighter”).  Learn WHY your heels come up & how to fix them, or why your elbows stick out. Paraequestrians welcome.

Please contact me if you are interested in attending this special event held at our farm Sept. 21 and 22nd - Spaces are limited so please contact me asap at mendozadressage@gmail.com

Julio and Ivan Sport are in the May 2010 issue of the Dressage Today Magazine! In the Clinic with Yvonne and Kim Barteau, the couple who run KYB Dressage in Illinois critiqued photos of riders and here is what they had to say about Julio and Ivan Sport~

Ivan Sport and Julio Mendoza, Ivan is a 7 year old Ster Stallion at 4th Level Test 2. They won the class with a score of 69.5 %!

A Focused and Attentive Picture-

“There is much to admire in your picture, Julio. The overall and immediate look and appeal is that we have a pair working in harmony together. The rider sites in a relaxed and correct alignment, and the aids are in place in a good way. Both rider and horse appear focused and attentive to the job at hand. Well done. Also, this well-turned out horse is in good weight and nicely groomed and presented. That is always a sign of respect for the sport.

Overall, there is one thing that could make the most of this picture turning it into a more FEI-looking partnership: The uphill presentation needs to be practiced and perfected. Some of the energy that you create as a rider needs to be stored and gathered and then redirected with careful half halts toward a more uphill frame. This is tricky work. Even though the neck must go out slightly in medium and extended trots, the poll should not drop so low. Often this happens if the horse has more desire and speed than he does balance and strength, and so corrections need to be made gradually a few steps at a time.”

PA Horse World Expo

It was our first time at the PA Horse World Expo and it sure was a great experience~  FHANA and MAFA were represented by Gail Aumiller of Dreams Come True Farm, Carlisle, PA, Paige Lilly of Allentown, PA and Julio and Jessica Mendoza of Mendoza Dressage, Laytonsville, MD.   We brought two of The Stables at Rolling Ridge Stallions:  Tije 401 Sport and Ivan Sport.  Everyday of the expo as a special demonstration, Julio performed a crowd pleasing Dressage Musical Freestyle aboard the 7 year old Ivan Sport.  Also daily was the Parade of Breeds performance where the versatility of the Friesian was showcased with Gail Aumiller driving her 5 year old Ster Mare Sjanntje, it was Gail’s 1st solo public appearance driving Sjanntje, who couldn’t have been better behaved!  During the Parade of Breeds Julio Dutch long-lined Tije 401 Sport, who also performed tricks.  The crowd roared with please when Tije reared, layed down, sat, bowed, and did his spanish walk.  Jessica Mendoza rode Ivan throughout the Expo sometimes in Dressage tack and sometimes bareback!  Paige Lilly rode her gelding Zane, offering central Pennsylvania the treat to see 4 Friesians in the ring at one time~  Jessica, riding Ivan and Paige riding Sjanntje also rode in Julio Mendoza’s dressage clinic “Achieving Balance and Collection” on Friday, which was very well received.

Julio was ecstatic when he learned about an opportunity to ride for Colleen Kelly in one of her clinics at the 2010 PA Horse World Expo. She not only gave Julio a better perspective on Rider Biomechanics but also opened his eyes to the bigger picture of what he can do to be a better mount for his horses. Julio says he was honored to ride for Colleen and to make a great new Friend!! There was never a dull moment - even when the mule decided to rudely interrupt the clinic , LOL!! If any of you get the chance to ride for her or audit one of her clinics you wont be disappointed :)

Check her out at : www.colleenkelly.net

We met so many wonderful people at the Expo and want to extend a special Thanks to everyone who volunteered at this event and helped make it possible ~!

 2010 MD Horse World Expo

The Expo is 4 days packed with educational seminars, demonstrations, Stallion Avenue, Breed Row, and plenty of shopping! This was the first year FHANA and our regional club MAFA had a booth at this event. We had 3 Ster Friesian Stallions from The Stables at Rolling Ridge representing the Friesian Breed at the expo- Ivan Sport, Tije 401 Sport, and Romke. They were all a huge hit- each having forelock down to their lips- and mane almost to their knees. The Stallions took turns in the Breed Row stall, each enjoying getting pampered by all of the people who passed by the booth.

The Friesians performed 3 times each day. The Friesians started off the Expo with a bang! We did a Musical Freestyle with Ivan Sport- sending the crowd into cheers and applause after seeing his extended trot! Later on FHANA and MAFA member Julio Mendoza gave a seminar on achieving Balance and Collection while riding the 7 year old, Ivan Sport. Then we got Romke out to go at Liberty and afterwords, Tije 401 Sport performed in the traditional Dutch Long Lines and did some wonderful tricks for the crowd- he bowed, did Spanish Walk, layed down, sat, reared up, and did piaffe.

FHANA’s booth got numerous comments on how beautiful everything was set up- and we handed out nearly all of the materials we had brought about FHANA! It was great meeting new people, Friesian enthusiasts, and familiar faces~ Thank you for all the volunteer’s who helped in this event, it would not have been possible with out everyone’s team effort! Thank you- Deb Winkler, Beth Bergeron, Kathy Blain, Desrosier Family, Lisa Schuler, Jill Jakulevicious, the Lyon Family, Amy Schmidt, Gail Aumiller and more!

A comment from the expo:

Julio Mendoza - what can I say except thank you. Thank you to the staff of the Maryland Horse Expo in providing us with this slice of joy. Julio's presentations have revived my equine passion through not just his talent, all his awards and accomplishments prove this, not just the lesson he presents, which provide something for everyone to take home, but for the love, warmth and inspiration. When Julio enters the ring his persona of complete happiness and joy fill the facility. Not only does Julio emit this wonderful feeling of enthusiasm but his mounts radiate this love. It's not just a presentation but an emotional experience. I have been inspired. Thank you!

I have been a vendor at equine expos and horse shows for 22 years. I always enjoy, learn and take home many lessons, but this was a gift.
